FAQs:

Who should be an Arts Partner?
The Arts Partner program is targeted toward nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and also community-focused arts providers such as commercial galleries, dance studios and other creative industries.

What do I get by being an Arts Partner?
A stronger, united arts community!
More specifically, you’ll help COPPeR continue its work that serves all the arts community. A few highlights:

• COPPeR’s PeakRadar.com is the No. 1 arts website in Southern Colorado, received more than 2 million page views in 2009. PeakRadar also serves as the events calendar for the Convention & Visitors Bureau, KRCC, KCME, Downtown Partnership and others. Our weekly e-blast reaches thousands of arts patrons. PeakRadar also is part of FortCarsonText, informing the thousands of incoming troops and their families about arts opportunities. In a recent survey of PeakRadar users, 98.5 percent said PeakRadar has made them more aware of local arts events and opportunities and 72 percent said PeakRadar caused them to attend an event they otherwise wouldn’t have known about. That’s proof-positive of PeakRadar helping to build audiences for your arts organizations!

The COPPeR Pages provides information on more than 180 local arts groups to connect residents with creative opportunities. The guidebook is distributed free at libraries, community centers, cultural centers, at Fort Carson and many other locations. This guidebook helps residents – especially newcomers – connect to your organization in long-lasting and meaningful ways.

• COPPeR’s downtown arts-information center is open five days a week. Every day, people visit the office to pick up brochures and fliers and learn more about the arts community.

• COPPeR’s ongoing advocacy efforts include giving presentations on the arts to civic organizations, Leadership Pikes Peak groups, local governments, and more! We help coordinate visits to cultural sites when tourism writers visit the region. We are part of the “Arts Create Community” bumper-sticker campaign. Our arts-and-culture fact sheet has been printed verbatim in a full page of the Colorado Springs Business Journal. These are just a few examples of how our advocacy work serves all the arts.

OK, that’s great. Will we get anything else?
Arts Partners get reduced-price participation rates in COPPeR’s Bootcamp workshops – ongoing sessions bringing in experts in areas such as fund development, marketing, board governance, social media, technology and more – specifically catered to arts providers. Arts Partners also receive the COPPeR e-newsletter and will be recognized in COPPeR’s annual report.

Is Arts Partners a membership program?
Yes and no – but mostly no. By being an Arts Partner, your organization tangibly demonstrates that the arts community is united in the collaborative work of COPPeR to strengthen all our arts scene – work such as operating PeakRadar.com, publishing and distributing The COPPeR Pages guidebook, giving presentations on the value of the arts to civic groups, operating our downtown storefront arts-information space, leading a communitywide cultural planning effort, and much, much more.
But this isn’t a membership program like you’re used to seeing. That is, COPPeR maintains its commitment to inclusion – so you don’t have to be an Arts Partner to be included in PeakRadar.com or The COPPeR Pages, for example. And we will continue to advocate for all the arts and the role the arts play in enhancing economic development, education, tourism, regional branding and civic life. Arts Partners don’t get “special” treatment – rather, your organization will serve as a united force to support COPPeR in doing the work that no one entity can do on its own.

Is this an annual program?
Yes. In the first quarter of each year, we’ll be asking our Arts Partners to renew their commitment.

Will my support make a difference?
Absolutely! COPPeR operates on a very modest budget, and broad-based support is critical. Because we are the only professionally staffed cultural office serving the region, COPPeR has been able to leverage new financial support for the arts, like, for example, our contracts with the City of Colorado Springs and the Convention & Visitors Bureau. But we need your support to continue our impactful work. Indeed, for this investment to continue from some of our key partners, COPPeR must provide a tangible demonstration that the arts community is truly united behind COPPeR’s work and supportive of this fresh, collaborative and strategic approach to strengthening the arts scene.

Can individuals be Arts Partners?
Arts Partners is intended for nonprofit organizations and commercial arts providers. We also happily welcome and encourage donations from individuals. Your contribution as an individual to COPPeR is fully tax-deductible, and individual donors are recognized in our annual report and invited to our annual Report to the Community appreciation event. For more on making your individual donation to COPPeR, click here. And we welcome corporate supporters who are not part of the arts scene to contribute to COPPeR; if you are a business that’s not part of the creative industries but would like to learn more about investing in COPPeR, contact Executive Director Bettina Swigger at bettina@coppercolo.org.

Are Arts Partners only nonprofits?
Nope. Arts Partners may be arts and cultural nonprofits or other nonprofits that embrace creativity, as well as other providers in the arts industry such as commercial galleries, dance studios, etc.

How can I find our more about the great things COPPeR is doing that really are making a difference in the arts community?
Download our 2009 annual report here, and go to www.coppercolo.org to learn even more.

Here’s the deal. Until COPPeR formed, Colorado Springs was the largest metro area in the country without a professionally staffed cultural-affairs office. We heard you loud and clear at the 2003 Arts Summit and in many ways since then. That’s why we created COPPeR. Now we’re inviting the arts community to show your support for COPPeR’s work by becoming an Arts Partner.

Thank you for all the valuable work you do in our community!
