Volume I Featured Artists

Andy Tanner has just released "Suitcase Full of Air", an 11 song introspective lullaby by him and new band in summer 2008. Half dark piano pop, half post punk medium core, the style of writing Andy Tanner shows on "Suitcase Full of Air" is similiar to early Rocky Votolato, mixed with the feeling from a Lou Reed song. Together, these two help make up a sound reminisent of Jet's to Brazil, Coldplay and The Smashing Pumpkins. Previously, Tanner was the singer-songwriter for the band Laymen Terms for seven years, which released four albums on Suburban Home Records. www.MySpace.com/AndyTanner

Ashley Raines grew up in the Midwest and began running away from home almost as early as he could walk. By the age of fourteen he was hitchhiking from his home in Kansas to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He hopped boxcars and squeezed out a small living by publishing his poetry in college literary magazines. He taught himself any instrument he could get his hands on, recorded his songs on four-track reel-to-reel machines, which he sold while performing on the street and occasionally picked up work as a farm hand. In 1997 Raines, who had then only given his music on street corners and during coffee shop open mics, signed to Howlin’ Dog Records. In 2000 Raines signed to The Society of European Stage Authors and Composers (SESAC). Raines has released six albums. www.MySpace.com/AshleyRaines

Robert Houston II, popularly known as Black Pegasus or by a variety of nicknames (Black P, The Black Mexican), is a hip-hop artist and current president and CEO of Brass Knuckle Entertainment. With a foundation in Colorado Springs, he has crafted a dedicated following of thousands over the past years by performing and battling in the Midwest and Southwest. www.theblackmexican.com

Born and raised in the high desert of Northern New Mexico, Cahalen David Morrison manifests beauty - of land, people, art and love - through his music. His songs sweep from nimble finger picking and twangy bluegrass ballads to mellow, bluesy lap slide guitar and spirited jazz drumming, Cahalen’s music taps into the entirety of true Americana music. www.cahalen.com or www.supersolarsounds.com

Grass It Up entertains a range of audiences with their eclectic and articulate blend of traditional bluegrass, while turning heads with colorful renditions of audience favorites and compelling original compositions. The power trio of David Jeffrey (mandolin/guitar/vocal), Shannon Carr (guitar/banjo/vocal) and Jon Bross (upright bass/vocal) has released two original full-length CDs and can be heard performing for Fortune 500 companies, luxury resorts and convention centers, mountain towns and festivals, acoustic societies and private events. www.grassitup.com

MOJO Magazine describes John-Alex Mason thusly: “His scrubbed John-Boy looks give no hint that this young man from Colorado is a singer of power and authority, with remarkable access to the brooding intensity of north Mississippi blues. [His songs] are highly individual, powered by foot-stomping acoustic or electric guitar and percussion.” www.johnalexmason.com

Kelly Feeley’s voice and sensitive songwriting is authentic folk with flair. Listening to her music should remind you of sitting next to a warm fire, bundled up, enjoying the scent of a hint of smoke in the air on a perfect fall night gathered with loved ones, a carafe of burgundy at your side. www.MySpace.com/KellyFeeley

Metro Blues was the brainchild of George Whitesell, who has been performing for more than 45 years, working as a solo artist and in duos and groups including his current band, George Whitesell & His All Stars featuring Jill Watkins. George and his wife, Amy, also produce concerts locally with their company, A Music Company Inc. www.MySpace.com/GeorgeWhitesell

Poésis – The word “poésis" comes from a couple of French quantum physicists who, in the early 20th century, found that quantum particles tend to disappear in space/time if an observer quits observing the particle itself, while the presence of an observer makes the particle stay focused and still. Thus, the scientists deduced a self-manifesting nature to the universe, and they term this power “auto-poésis,” or “self-manifestation.” www.poesis8.com

Rissman-Uveges-Braithwaite

Susan Rissman, Joe Uveges and KJ Braithwaite first worked together musically in a Colorado Springs-based bar band back in the mid-1990's. They found they shared a mutual love for well crafted songs and vocal harmony, deciding to form in the summer of 2007. Susan Rissman's vocals have formed the basis for numerous local projects, but this is the first project she has helped pen songs for. KJ and Joe each have written hundreds of songs. KJ (blues, rock, and rockabilly) has a guitar style much in the Claptonesque vein. Joe's material tends toward singer/songwriter folk/rock/spiritual/funny stuff. www.joeuveges.com
